The 2025-26 School Year was off to a busy start for Islamia Girls School (IGS) students, with our Autumn Term full of in-school and national competitions. Here’s our recap of the past few months.
In December, IGS girls competed in a basketball match against Excelerate Basketball Club from Alperton Community School. Even though our students had had a long day at school, that didn’t stop them from giving the game their all. The team played four games, each one lasting ten minutes. Mothers were watching from the sidelines, the crowd was roaring and emotions were high.
Our team lost the first game, drew on the second, won the third and then lost the final game. We were so proud of our girls, who played with enthusiasm and determination against extremely though opponents. They demonstrated excellent teamwork, lifting each other’s spirits in the face of great odds. They also showed great sportsmanship, ending the evening by congratulating the other team on their win.
Another competition our IGS Year 10 students took part in was the STEM Muslims Competition. They had an exciting and action-packed day at Imperial University competing against Islamic Schools from across London. It was an energetic and competitive environment as students tackled four fast-paced rounds: Science, Maths, Engineering and Computer Science. The competition tested their problem-solving skills, creativity and quick thinking, all while representing the school with confidence and enthusiasm. It was a fun, inspiring experience that challenged minds and sparked a real passion for STEM.
We concluded the autumn term with IGS Celebrate —an in-school award ceremony which recognised students for their good behaviour, punctuality and attendance. Certificates were handed out to students for each of these categories and gifts were given to those with the highest points for good behaviour.
Well done to all our students. We look forward to the exciting competitions and awards the rest of this school year will bring.
